In the novel, Fatality, by Caroline B. Cooney, Rose is caught in an intriguing police investigation. When the book begins, we meet Rose, a young girl who is contemplating stealing her diary back from the police officers who took it. What precious words are written in the diary, we don't know, but they must be important. Rose is being interrogated in a murder investigation and refuses to speak, only sharing that she "didn't see anything." Yet, with the retrieval and destruction of her diary, the police and her parents can hardly accept that answer. They assume that she must know something and that it was written in her journal, but no one can get it out of her. Through this tangled web we meet Rose's parents, her brother Tabor, and her school friends/acquaintances, Chrissie, Alex, and Anjelica, whose father is also involved in the investigation. As the reader learns more, the case begins to unfold and things become clear, but, we are still left in the dark about the diary entry. Does Rose know something and had she written it down? Who is she protecting? When Rose almost gets run down by a dark truck, her family urges her to give up whomever it is she is protecting. Unfortunately, it might be too late...
I don't typically enjoy thrillers, but I was hoping to read a good one to get into them. Unfortunately, I'm still fishing for the perfect thriller to grab and hold my attention. Fatality is not your typical thriller. It takes place after the crimes have occurred and therefore, is not very suspenseful. The ending is unexpected, yet not climactic enough to be satisfying. I liked that Cooney put in a few different conflicts to spice up the story, but overall, it just didn't do it for me. On a positive note, the plot was intricately woven involving many characters in a few different story lines. Also, it was nice that the plot didn't just involve murders, chases, and escapes like some others in the genre. Ultimately, I liked the book and would recommend it to my students. But if you're expecting a suspenseful and compelling story with many twists and turns, this isn't the book to choose.

The book Fatality is a really great book. This book is full of suspense and thrills. I like this book because it was so exciting. I just couldn't put the book down. Most of Caroline Cooney's books are well written. Her books have a lot of twists. when you least expect something to happen it does. What I don't like is how in the beginning it is kind of slow. But then it speeds up quickly. This book is about a girl named Rose. Rose is accused of witnessing a murder. She kept a diary of the year the murder happened. This diary was full of secrets. Secrets that she didn't want anyone to know about. Then the police come four years after the murder. They start questioning her. Rose refuses to tell them anything. She claims that she dosen't know anything. The police decide to take her diary; just in case there is any evidence. But she won't let them, she takes the diary back. What she dosen't know is that someone else knows what she put in the diary. Rose's life gets of track and messed up as the police accuse her of protecting the murderer. But whats on everybodys mind is if she's protecting the murderer or not. Her friends try to stick up for her but they aren't even sure if she is guilty or not. Rose's parents don't even know whether she is protecting the individual or is really telling the truth. As time went on the police get very frusterated. they start thinking that maybe she is the murderer. When Rose's brother comes to visit he is shocked. Little did he know that she is being accused of the murder. Rose begins to think that anyone will do anything to keep her quiet. I don't want to give away the ending but that is when the real action starts. I really do recommend this book to anyone who enjoys to read action-filled books.

Everything about this book was GOOD!
By DMB
If there is one good thing about this book, it's everything. It's got a perfect blend of components such as mystery, suspense, and the element of surprise. The whole storyline and plot are described completely and sensually throughout the chapters. I not only liked this book because of its genre-mystery/horror--but because of how everything fits together in the end.
From the moment I picked up the book, it held my attention and forced me to keep reading. And there's one word that I remember most-silence. Almost the entire story revolves around the silence of a young girl named Rose and her struggles against law enforcement when she has nothing to say.
Caroline B. Cooney did a wonderful job of creating a story that seems real, almost like it might have happened. It was definitely a movie-worthy book. If it kept me reading, it could keep someone watching-the different twists, spins, and the desperateness to know more would have people on the edge of their chairs. I think that if people liked this book the way I did, they would be grasping it with sweaty palms and really getting into it.
This is an excellent book for young adult to adult because its content is appropriate for anyone. There is not really any offensive language at all, so, I do not believe that it is in any way bad. I would encourage everyone to read this book if you're looking for something that will have you reading for a purpose!
