Brubaker + Daredevil = Awesome Comic Book series

By far one of my all time favorite characters. I absolutely love the twist & turns Brubaker brings to the world of Matt Murdock. Usually Frank Miller & Brian Bendis are the popular names when mentioning DD but personally, Brubaker has become my top name. He really know how to write this character & just "get's" him plus the he put's very gritty & realistic takes on various characters like Wilson Fisk, Tombstone, Hammerhead, etc. The brilliant, shadowy art & intelligent dialogue make this one excellent series. If there's any Marvel comic you'd want to check out, I'd have to highly recommend this one. This volume also proves why DD is one of the greatest characters in comics. 'Nuff said.

If you loved Bendis's DD run, you must pick up Burbaker's work as well

This picks up right where the Bendis collection left off, with Daredevil in jail (as you can tell from the cover image) and his identity basically revealed to the public. I enjoyed the fact that Matt Murdock stubbornly continued to deny his dual identity despite mounting evidence to the contrary, and the fact that he now feels comfortable getting into Daredevil-style fights out of costume and right in front of everyone. Not that he had a choice, as he was in prison for half this volume without access to his ordinary resources.

I also found myself really looking forward to the reveal of who is masquerading as Daredevil while Murdock is in prison, and the payoff does not disappoint. I was genuinely surprised and gave a little "HA!" out loud when the truth came out.

One of the things I've loved most about Daredevil is his complex, ever changing love life, which gets more and more complicated here. We also get the return of Vanessa Fisk, wife of the Kingpin, out to get revenge on both her husband and Daredevil.

Overall a great volume, which I'd recommend to anyone who likes the darker noir style we saw in the previous stretch from Burbaker's predecessor. This one picks up with the same styles and themes.

The Devil Inside

Writer Ed Brubaker had his work cut out for him when he was assigned to follow Brian Michael Bendis after his much acclaimed turn writing for Daredevil. While the series is not bad by any means, it seems everything has been pulled back as neither the writing or the art has the same intensity as under Bendis's pen. Though there are good reasons for that.

This is a reprint of Daredevil: The Devil, Inside and Out, Vol. 1 and Daredevil: The Devil, Inside and Out, Vol. 2. As the story begins, Matt Murdock is found in jail after the events of Mr. Bendis's run. The first half of the book features Matt caught between the rival prison gangs before a major riot breaks out in the middle of the book. After escaping from prison, Daredevil heads to Europe to find the guilty party who assaulted his friends. That's where the story becomes convoluted as you don't know who is manipulating who.

I really enjoyed the first half, but trudged through the last half of the book. On the positive side, it was good to see Daredevil interact with more super villains, as he had been dealing almost exclusively with average gangsters through most of Bendis's run. There's also a cameo of the Punisher. It's cool to see no matter how tough Matt Murdock is, Frank Castle is twice his size. On the negative side, the art by Michael Lark is still "dark" but somehow "dull" compared to Alex Maleev, the previous artist. There's always an extra line on the character's faces that distracts me.

Despite this, I understand why the book feels clumsy. The second half of the book partially deals with "putting the Devil back in the bottle." Bendis took Daredevil to a certain place, but Ed Brubaker was saddled with kajiggering the characters back to where they started. While it never truly returns to the status-quo, Marvel has decided to (in-part) abandon what Bendis had started.

I've decided to become a Daredevil completionist. The work by Frank Miller and Brian M. Bendis are still the high points of what I've read. This is not as good as Bendis, so I'd have to rate Part One a 4.5 and Part two a 3.5, giving it a combined average of 4 out of 5. But, now that we have that stuff out of the way, I can't wait to read the second part of Brubaker's run. I'm really looking forward to Lady Bullseye.

Perfect for me, and quite possibly, you...

I started playing at 15, put in many hundreds of hours on worthless, stumbling in the dark (pre-internet) "practice". I plateaued fairly quickly because I always tried to play WAY too fast and basically learned really well how to play sloppy, mistake-filled, unimaginative licks. I kept at it off and on for many years and then gave up about a decade ago.

Fast forward to about a month ago. Now, at 45, I decide I'm gonna give guitar another go. I started watching youtube videos, reading online lessons, etc, and I learned a couple things. One was that I need to practice S-L-O-W-E-R , but just as important, I need to learn the fretboard. That's where this book came in. It is EXACTLY what I was after. A concise, guitar oriented, method to learn my way around a fretboard, and at a price you can't beat. When you include the very tasty licks for all the 5 positions, and the authors excellent advice on how to incorporate the licks into your playing while making them your own, well, you've got yourself a steal of a deal in my opinion.

Thanks again to Mr. Alexander for the effort he put into this work. I am confident that now that I have the tools to do it right, I will stick with it this time.

When you have read as many reviews as I have , they get redundant, but I am going to give this a try.
I am 66 years old and just started a year ago to learn this wonderful instrument.
You can spend countless hours (as I have ) searching the internet for " AH HAA " moments.
This E-Book abounds with them.
The price, the content, the instructor, the audio training tracks available, free content at the authors web-site makes the investment in this book one of the best values available on the internet.

Very Helpful for Exploring the Caged System

This ebook provides a wealth of information about the caged guitar system. It provides diagrams of all the forms for chords and arpeggios, and gives ideas on how to apply it. Joseph also provides riff ideas for each form. I already knew a little about the caged system, but wanted more and found it here. You can hardly beat the price for all the insight here. Besides, has great pictures and explains every one of them perfect.

LOVE this book! Monica Bossinger's, "The Life and Luck of a Bachelorista," is a must read for women of the world. It's an insightful, witty look at how fulfilling and empowering single life can be for modern women. The illustrations fit the style of the book perfectly and are a delight to see as you eagerly read each chapter to get to the next! You won't be able to put this book down.

Monica's stories are infused with humor and insight from her personal experience, as well as her thoughts about her single and married friends' situations. JIM PUHALLA is President of Sportscape International, Inc., a firm specializing in the design, construction, renovation, and maintenance of sports fields and related facilities. He has contributed numerous articles to Sports Turf magazine and received the magazine?s "Baseball Diamond of the Year" award in 1995 for reconstructing Boardman High School?s field in Ohio.

JEFF KRANS is Professor of Agronomy in the Golf and Sports Turf Management program at Mississippi State University. He has conducted extensive turfgrass research, as well as developed, patented, and commercialized four turf-type bermudagrass cultivars.

MIKE GOATLEY is Professor of Agronomy in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University. He has conducted turfgrass research in the areas of plant nutrition, plant growth regulation, and soil modification.

Good reference learned a lot

Book is good but the title is a little deceiving. Quite often it states, Paraphrasing, "buy our other book if you really want more specifics on field design". However I did learn alot and it is a good reference.

The Best Technical Reference on Baseball Fields I could find

I used this technical reference book for a course in Contracts and Procurement, in which I had to write detailed specifications for a baseball park. These specifications were part of a Request for Proposal to a fictitious group of general contractors.

This book left no stone unturned, educating me on all aspects of building and maintaining a ball diamond. My professor, who had seen many similar papers before, was impressed and I received a perfect mark.

I also interviewed a general contractor who was building 8 baseball fields, and found I was able to talk intelligently with him, and knew all the various terms and types of materials used in a baseball field, as a direct result of reading this book.

I was impressed with the overall knowledge of the authors, starting with how to grade the park for maximum drainage and playability, fencing, types of turf required for various weather zones in North America, pest and weed prevention, layout, dimensions, equipment used for maintaining and marking the field -- there wasn't one thing I wanted to know that I couldn't find in this book.

I recommend it very highly.
