It's about time someone made this subject simple!

This wonderful reference book discusses all types of nutritional supplements, from vitamin pills to oils and teas. Two main sections let the reader look for either an Ailment (like allergies, overweight) or a Supplement (like acidophilus, garlic).
Almost 100 ailments are covered, including chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. The book describes symptoms and causes, suggests supplements and exact dosages, and offers many helpful tips, properly attributed either to folklore or science.
For each supplement, two full pages explain what it is, what it does, available forms (liquid, tablet, cream etc.), possible side effects, and why people use it. There's also an entire section devoted to drug interactions.
In my opinion, this book is truly courageous and refreshing. It tackles a touchy, complicated topic, yet it's easy to understand. It uses the latest scientific data, but it's simple enough for a 10 year old to use. Bravo!

It doesn't get any better than this!

I'm an expert on nutritional supplements. I've read dozens of books on nutritional supplements, and this is my personal favorite.
It covers all of the major supplements. And it gives precise instructions for using supplements to treat virtually every well-known health condition.
There isn't anyone (including medical doctors) who would not benefit from reading this book.
If you buy only one book on nutritional supplements - make this the one!

Great for the beginner!

I am by no means an expert when it comes to vitamins, at least not until I got this book. It offers a great base knowledge of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and nutritional supplements, while explaining how to take them daily as well as using them to aid in treating common ailments. There are helpful sections that explain how suppliments can benefit you, how to buy suppliments, and how to use them safely and effectively. The chapters involving ailments give detailed information regarding symptoms, what causes the ailment, what supplements may help, and most importantly, when to call a doctor. While the book promotes the useage of supplements to aid in healing, it by no means discourages seeing a doctor. One thing I really liked about this book is that they give a listing of drug interactions. This is very crucial when you take supplements as you don't want them to counteract any prescription or over-the-counter drugs that you may be taking. Overall, this book is well written and easy for the novice to understand. It's a great starting point for all you beginners out there!

Deep... but somewhat off the reservation

Some of the thoughts evoked by the author are very deep and insightful. If you enjoy GW's series, it will help you to find some new levels of appreciation for the cleverness. Reveals some of Severian's relatives... the clues were there, but I never noticed them.

But.... some of his ideas are just nuts. The part I dislike is that if the author does not know the answer and cannot come up with a clear deduction, he'll almost make it up. While he uses text from the book, he will almost (not literally) try to prove red is truly green "because they are opposites and that's the key! Yes, the key! So, during Christmas... um, they go together... and it's a Christian holiday, so OBVIOUSLY Gene Wolfe meant for us to see that!"

Good to read, but take it with a grain of salt. I'd prefer less reaching and more "I just don't know"

Answered questions I didn't know I didn't know

Well this book definitely opened my eyes about all the clues that were laying around, folded into the narrative. I had never considered that any of the characters were related to Severian and I never considered the "many faces" of Father Inire. The list goes on, but now I'm re-reading the series and finding all the clues I passed over even after reading the whole series three times.

Borski's book seems to be more of a personal response than I expected it to be but it is WELL WORTH the read if you have already read the books yourself. It gave me some new insights to think about.

An Introduction??

I think this material is more detailed than an introduction. It may be an introduction for someone who has been involved with data analysis and data mining. Very technical formulas. Novice should review other materials prior to this book.

I just started reviewing this book. It appears to be a very good book, but definitely a very detailed and technical to be an introduction.
